During the ICUD project (2012-2014) partners carried out research and pilot training sessions with young people and educators, about good practices and how to combat discrimination on social network sites. There are full ‘training outline forms’ (in English) in the ‘material’ section on this web site, which describe the replicable sessions. An impression of each partner’s activities can be seen here on the videos taken during the training, and edited by a group of young people at the Collage Arts studios in London.

Bucharest pilot training – Fundatia PACT

Young people learned what’s “cool” and “uncool” on the Internet in terms of relating to one another and they reflected on how discrimination is present in the online environment.
They were encouraged to understand the concept of discrimination, what it means to be discriminated against and explore their own feelings and thoughts regarding discrimination.

London pilot training – Collage Arts

This was a training course based on 4 principles to keep young people safe on the Internet and social media and to challenge subtle discrimination on-line using their own creativity. The 4 principles are:

  1. Being ME
  2. Being with YOU
  3. Being aware of hidden discrimination
  4. Being creative together

Rome pilot training – CIES ONLUS

The training involved students, professional trainers and immigrants, in an innovative workshop based on non-formal and interactive methodologies in order to develop strategies to recognise and challenge discrimination online.

Brussels pilot training – PLS

The organization “Pour La Solidarité” organized three pilot sessions with young people aged from 15 to 20 years. These actions were designed to both raise awareness about discrimination on social networks, as well as to motivate young people to become pro-active Internet users.

Barcelona pilot training – CEPS Projectes Socials

The training focused on analysing discrimination and xenophobia with groups of young people and groups of educators, using common digital tools and social networks, such as: mobile phone, tablets, Instagram, twitter and facebook.

The training aimed to empower professionals to understand the digital environments young people inhabit today, and how they interact and create relationships online. With young people the sessions aimed at learning to recognise dangers and develop social skills, to be respectful towards themselves and others, and to remain safe on and off-line.
